Everyone enjoys a good party and we welcome them here at Buckland Mills; however, we ask that you follow some guidelines when planning a party at school. In order to help us all have an enjoyable experience, Principal Greer has established the following procedures when planning an inschool event. Please read this information carefully and feel free to contact the office if you have any questions. Thank you.
Dear Parents,
The school year will be filled with special celebrations and activities for the children. In anticipation of these events, I am sharing some guidelines that we have established at Buckland Mills Elementary regarding the celebration of birthdays, special events, and holidays during the school day. Please know that the guidelines reflect the school board’s directives, support the county’s Wellness Initiative and address the growing number of serious food allergies in the building while providing students with many different ways to celebrate and have fun.
The basic guidelines are as follows:
- Celebrations will be fun, creative, and imaginative!
- Celebrations will definitely include and need parent participation!
These guidelines may seem unconventional, but they are purposefully designed to expand the possibilities for enjoying celebrations. You are welcome to bring in treats for your child’s birthday, and we always encourage healthy treats. Please coordinate this with the teacher and the principal prior to bringing them to school. These treats will be distributed to the class at lunchtime. We encourage arts and craft projects, games, read-alouds, treasure hunts, and plays, as alternate ways to celebrate your child’s special day. Pencils, erasers, and stickers are wonderful alternatives to share. Parents are also welcome to come in and read a favorite story to the class, participate in the PTO’s Birthday Bookworm program, and/or have lunch with your child.
Providing students with special activities and opportunities to have fun is very important, and parent participation in these activities is critical. Thank you celebrating at Buckland Mills Elementary!
Sincerely,
Janet Greer
